Playing
everything from rattling Celtic reels to folk, country and rock songs, the Funky
String Band will perform in Melbourne, Wednesday 5th April 2006.
Featuring the legendary Scottish fiddle player, Angus
R. Grant, Tasmanian mandolin virtuoso Luke
Plumb, and Camperdown singer/guitarist Peter
Daffy, the evening is guaranteed to be a riotous mix of powerful roots,
traditional and contemporary acoustic music.
In
2005 the band recorded their second album, “Mongrel Unleashed”, to critical
acclaim from Scottish and Canadian reviewers.
It features Angus’ groovy ancient fiddle tones, Luke’s beautiful
mandolin instrumentals, complemented by traditional and contemporary songs.
The band has since toured both Australia and Scotland promoting the
recording.
Band
vocalist, Peter Daffy, has a gift for adapting his voice to different musical
styles, and the band keeps the audience guessing by tastefully moving between
world music, original tunes and musical comedy.
The Funky String Band will feature this year at the National (A.C.T) and
Fairbridge (W.A.) Folk Festivals.
